Halitosis or bad breath is a common problem. Most adults and children have it occasionally and this infrequent type of breath odor usually has a very simple cause such as recently consumed food. Of course, this is not a dental or medical problem.
On the other hand frequent bad breath, which can carry social/professional repercussions, is usually due to much more complex causes. If you were referred to Dr. Warner for this condition, then along with obtaining a complete history, an examination will be performed to evaluate the source of the malodor. Is it oral, respiratory or gastrointestinal? Is the chronic bad breath related to medications, tooth decay, dry mouth, infections, cancer or some other cause?
After the underlying cause is identified, a treatment plan can be formulated. This leads to replacing chronic bad breath with long-lasting fresh breath.
