Dental Hygiene/Periodontal Health

In addition to comfortable meticulous office cleaning and polishing of your teeth, we will help our patients develop good oral hygiene home care habits. We will evaluate your hygiene techniques and make suggestions as necessary.

If needed, we would look at additional preventative measures. For example, the home use of a prescription fluoride or MI Paste Plus might be encouraged. Office treatments such as white fluoride varnish or clear dental sealants may be recommended.

When there are signs of bruxism (clenching or grinding of the teeth) then different types of guards to protect against excessive wear and fracturing of your teeth would be discussed.

If we feel that you are suffering from periodontitis (severe gum disease), we would explore with you all your options. The goal is to save your teeth with as conservative treatment as possible. Surgery used to be the only treatment. New periodontal treatments dramatically decrease the use of surgery. Now there are many new non-surgical procedures available. These much less invasive methods usually don't even require the use of a local anesthetic injection. Advances in comfortable approaches to the treatment of periodontitis can be instrumental in preventing further bone loss and in helping you keep your natural teeth.
